How do you get up?

I know people with a bit more core strength will be able to lift but atm I'm kinda trying to fling myself up but my bum isn't following so I'm basically kicking up and coming straight back down, am I just supposed to keep doing this until eventually I can get my legs on the pole?

You can work up to it. Try just pulling into a ball with your knees into your chest and really concentrate on engaging your abs and not letting your bum drop. (I like "bum," think I'll start using it more.) Once you're comfortable holding that position for a while, then start working on shooting your legs up from there. But again, keep focusing on not letting your bum drop.

I recommend trying this from the ground with your shoulder a few inches off the ground. Lift up and try to hold your body vertical, legs as straight up in the air as you can, then try the straddle variation. Once you have mastered that put a big mat underneath you and try it 1-2 feet off the ground. You'll start off with your knees bent and kick up but you won't have as much height to overcome.

One big tip that really helped me was to check your stance before you lift up. A lot of people are standing almost veritical when they try learning this move. I recommed leaning pretty far back so that you are looking up at the sky and your head and upper body are horizontal. This should also make it easier when trying from a standing position, once you have mastered the two optiosn from the ground.

Good luck and have fun!
